I believe that every person is created with abilities and talents that make them unique. Our uniqueness is key to finding our purpose in life and finding real joy, peace, and contentment. Quilting, fiber art mediums, and teaching bring me great joy.
I love introducing the beginning quilter to the promise that they, too, can learn the basics that they need to begin a lifelong love of creating artistic quilts. I tried to sew my first quilting block when I was twelve years old, by reading the instructions on my own. I still have the first block I ever tried to make! In my teens, I became interested in garment construction and have made everything from yellow bikinis to bride’s maids’ dresses. I started my own custom drapery business in the Atlanta area and enjoyed the business aspect of creating until we moved to a new area of the country. When I arrived in Fairhope, Alabama, I found a much loved theme in my life to be surrounding me- water. Living near the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay has provided me endless opportunities to explore the native wildlife and the beauty of God’s creation. I take much of my inspiration from being a Gulf Coast artist.
I began quilting when I moved to the Fairhope area. I joined several guilds and sought out the best teachers- both locally known, and internationally credited. I have tried everything from traditional quilt block construction, art quilts, painted quilts, vintage linen quilts, Bargello, paper piecing, ink painted whole cloths, thread sketches, thread painting, and mixed media. Nothing thrills me more than to teach a student a new skill, a beginner how to sew, or an advanced learner how to thread paint.
